Plot Summary:

Connell has it all. He's golden boy that carries the school football team and even has the teachers drooling over him. Marianne, on the other hand, is quiet, smart, and precisely the opposite of popular. Their worlds never collide. That is, except for when Connell regularly drives to Marianne's huge house to pick up his mum who is paid to clean it. Fast forward to University in Dublin and haven't the tables turned. Suddenly it's Marianne who finds herself at the centre of every circle whilst Connell disappears in the corner. Through the trials of school and university, the pair have had an irrepressible connection, but it never seems to be the right time.

Rating: 2 / 5

So many people recommended this which makes it even sadder that I didn't love it! Yes, it's an interesting study of two well-rounded characters but the actual story did not have what I look for in a book. Very little happened. Not to mention the anticlimactic cop-out ending.

I was apathetic about what happened the characters and found their constant inability to communicate mildly frustrating.

The prose, on the other hand, was very readable and a good to wind down with.
