Plot Introduction:

Megan Phelps-Roper started protesting every day against "faggots", Mother Teresa, Princess Diana, and anyone else her family deemed destined for hell at the age of 5, in the park of her hometown Topeka.

She grew up in the Westboro Baptist church; an extremist Christian organisation run by what some called 'the most hated family in the world'.

Megan quickly found her niche in the church, spearheading its social media campaigns with her mother's direction.

At the age of twenty seven, Megan left the church. This novel covers everything in between.

Totally addictive, inspiring and incredibly written. I stayed up till 1am finishing it! Her journey away from religious indoctrination makes a truly fascinating to read; it was very brave of her to write a book like this.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community and an atheist, I was full of admiration for how articulately Phelps-Roper explained the views of her family (which stem from the mis-interpretation of the Bible) and the opinions she herself eventually formed.

It does not read at all like an autobiography, and includes some romance for any readers like me who have to have a bit of that ;)

If you're not sure whether to read it, maybe start with the Louis Theroux documentary on the church as a taster!

Book Discovery: I heard an extract from the novel on the radio whilst eating breakfast and knew I had to buy the book!
